The farewell

I never see the F-111 Royal Australian Air Force fuel burning in air shows since it has recently been decommissioned. One reason, besides the longevity of the fleet, has been well be related to this incident in July 2009 at Amberley Air Base (Australia). Apparently during take off a tire fell off and the crew proceeded to the burning of fuel required to be below the maximum landing weight (MLW). The study procedure involves making a landing with the train retracted while deploying a brake cable, equal to that used on aircraft carriers, which helps slow the plane once the hook is hooked onto the same cable. After landing without "major problems" Australian Air Force decided to keep the aircraft on the ground as they investigated the incident. You can watch the video and some pictures of the last flight of this aircraft variable arrow
